Photoblog: Green Fields and Chocolate Hills of Bohol, Philippines

Photos of the Bohol Chocolate Hills, Philippines

February 29, 2012

Last Updated on May 8, 2019

Out of the five islands we’ve visited in the Philippines so far, Bohol has got to be our favorite. While it’s one of the most visited islands in the archipelago, it’s hard to deny Bohol’s natural beauty. The isle’s coastline is lined with spearmint-colored beaches while its interior is dotted with rolling chocolate hills and emerald green rice paddies scattered through its floodplains.

In our short stay there, we tracked down tarsiers (you know how much we love wildlife!), cruised through a river, visited hundred-year-old churches and explored caves studded with stalactites and stalagmites. Few islands are as diverse as Bohol and even fewer teeming with this much natural attractions. Here are some photos to show the varied sides of the island, enjoy!

Travel Insurance for Frequent Travelers

I’ve been using Safety Wing for years now, and it’s one of the best decisions I’ve made as a frequent traveler. Their Nomad Insurance plan is affordable and provides solid coverage for medical emergencies regardless of where I’m traveling. It’s been super reliable for me, and I think you’ll find it just as helpful on your adventures!

Gorgeous photos, Nellie. I didn't imagine that the Philippines are so beautiful! I was there only once, and that was for scuba diving, so I didn't see much more than the island where I was staying. You convinced me that it's a place to go back and explore.

Cheers Simon! The Philippines is definitely underlooked by visitors. It's got gorgeous beaches and forests, yet less than a quarter of the tourists that Thailand receives. I highly recommend scuba diving there!

Food in the Philippines is not as spicy and colorful as that in the other parts of Southeast Asia, but the Bohol Bee Farm definitely dished up quite a good variety of yummy and healthy local cuisine!

Looks gorgeous. I'm planning on spending around 3 weeks in the Philippines on my backpacking trip and am having a difficult time figuring out which islands to visit! There are so many to choose from!

We had a hard time trying to decide which islands to go too! We only visited five out of the 7,107 islands in the Philippines, can't wait to go back and explore more.

Tarsiers! Now, I've read they're nature's losers – they can't move if they fall out of a tree as they can't actually walk, but only jump! I found it interesting, at least….anyway great pics here. Bohol looks gorgeous, and I've heard nothing but wonderful things about it. Thanks for sharing :)

Aside from the mysterious and magical perfect cone of the Mayon Volcano (in the Bicol Region), these midget chocolate-looking mounds located in Bohol are some of the best reasons why you should travel and consider Philippines to be your next destination. These unbelievable hills of Bohol are really perfect during summer season as @saritha asserted in order for tourist to appreciate their real sense as being the "Chocolate Hills" of the world.

We gotta agree. We really wanted to go to Palawan as well, but didn't have the time. Next time!

Bohol is a beautiful paradise in the Philippines but it was recently hit by 7.2 magnitude quake which destroyed some of the wonderful places. I just hope that this region will recover soon and I really would love to travel here.
