I’ve always dreamt of a life in the beautiful countryside of Tuscany, a house of my own, with a big vineyard, sipping wine in my terrace enjoying a view of the rolling fields. Restoring a 300-yr-old villa, learning a new language and setting up a new life in the village – it’s more of the notion of leaving behind life’s baggage, moving on and finding what you really want in life that speaks my mind.
My life philosophy – if you find yourself stuck in Life, it’s time to lose the fear, do something and move on. Love yourself, and life will start picking up. There was a time in my life, when I was down and casted in my own shadows. If I hadn’t made up my mind to pack my bags and fly to Miami, I might not have this beautiful Life I’m leading now.
The Beauty of Life
‘Under the tuscan sun’ is a beautiful story that not only shows the charm of Tuscany, Italy, but also the beauty of life, and how we can all make it happen magically. One of the quotes from the book says, "Never lose your childish enthusiasm and things will come your way."
‘Life offers you a thousand chances … all you have to do is take one.’ Many people lose chances in Life, because of fear. Fear of change, fear of making mistakes, fear of the unknown. It just takes that tiny bit of courage, to taste Life. So what if things go wrong, so what if it doesn’t turn out the way you expected? You need to have Faith.
As I took the big step into the unknown, I tasted failure, but also happiness and success. Life is beautiful when you’ve fought hard for it. Fought for your own happiness and a real life you want to lead.
The Beauty of Tuscany
Tuscany to me, relates to the beauty of Life. I remember my first time in Tuscany – it was magically surreal. Fields of sunflowers, beautiful brown roman architecture, and the tranquil countryside. Sunset over the fields remind me of how Life feels when you find Love – rosy, warm and blissful. It made me feel like I was in my dream, a dream that I’ll never wake up to.
I remember the view from our camp. Camping Village Il Poggetto is right in the middle of wine and olive yards, in the famous Chianti region. Yellow, brown-roofed houses dotting the slopes of the Tuscany hills and rolling olive fields. Waking up to the burning sun, rising as a red yolk in the sky, over the slopes. Evenings at camp was an event. Everyone gathered at the campsite’s restaurant that served up amazing italian food, and their home-made wine. People exchanged passionate conversations and affectionate laughters.
We were just 1 hour away from the capital of Arts- Florence. Playing with the pigeons infront of the amazing il Duomo, admiring the statue of World’s most perfect man- David, and the river that runs through the city – I was in love with the city, and the man I was with.
It’s hard not to let Florence take your breathe away. But still, my heart was still thinking of the countryside of Tuscany, and longing to go back to the fields and rolling slopes.
Positano, Napoli (the Naples)
In the movie, they drove through winding cliff-edge roads, to this stunning coastal town along the Amalfi Coast, where they tasted the typical Italian Limoncello on the volcanic sand of Positano. I wanted to get a taste of it – dine in a candlelit restaurant overlooking the coast, lie on the beach under the stars and look out into the sea on our balcony. And we did just that.
Our hotel Il Gabbiano was perched along the slopes, and had stunning views of the coast. Down the steep steps to the beach, we would walk by beautiful white-washed houses, with twinning vines and antique decor.
Quaint restaurants dot the slopes, many of them offering an unobstructed view of the coast as you dine under the stars.
Positano is definitely an expensive place to be, with cost of food and accomodation higher than other parts of Italy, but sometimes, life is worth some slurging, isn’t it?
Like Life, Tuscany is full of surprises, and can be beautiful if you can appreciate it. Just grab your chances while you can, and Life might just turn out exactly the way you want it to be.
