As the engine roared on our backs, I felt myself being lifted into the air and drifting further and further from land. In a matter of seconds, we were flying high above the valley. From my vantage point, I feasted on endless corn fields, green plains and clusters of dark green forests, all sprawled over undulating valleys and hills.
We were flying high above the slopes of the Triglav mountain in Slovenia on a motorized paraglide with Fun Turist. We was told this would give us the best view of the lake, and indeed, they were right. In the morning light, we took in spectacular views of the Lake Bled from above. From the village of Lesce just outside Bled, we took off into the sky and glided over acres upon acres of pine forests and running streams. Once over the lake, I drank in views of the castle which stands high on a cliff overlooking the lake. In the middle of the lake rises an ancient church perched on an island surrounded by nothing but clear blue water. Fringed by beautiful cobble stoned paths and emerald shoreline, the magical setting of the lake resembled scenes from a fairy tale. I pinched myself, to see if I was dreaming.
Here’s a short video of my experience that I hope captures the beauty of the region:
This powered paragliding activity departed from Lesce (a village outside of Bled) and brought us on a scenic flight over Lake Bled, the surrounding forests, rivers, golf course and campsites. The entire experience took around 30 minutes and cost €90. The paragliding experience can be booked directly with Fun Turist through their website www.funrafting.com.
