Celebrate Earth Day in Asia!

Today 22nd April marks the 39th year of the celebration of Earth Day. To continue to promote long-term changes in mindsets and lifestyles, the organisers have launched an ambitious ‘Green Generation Campaign’ that will hopefully motivate a bigger crowd to reverse the destruction of the environment. Events will be held all over the world from Washington to Tokyo, let’s have a look what’s happening in Asia, and do our part to save the Earth.

Body Mind Spirit Festival – Singapore
25th-26th April (Sat-Sun) 10am – 8pm : Fort Canning Park
A festival in the Park featuring healing and health therapies, natural and environmental products as well as Free Health talks and African drumming performances.

Sibol: Earth Day 2009: Nurturing a Green Generation – Manila, Philippines
22nd April (Wed) 7am – 9pm: CCP(Cultural Center of the Philippines)
This all-day major event will involve a design competition (‘An Installation Avenue’), a major Manila Bay Clean-up activity and the Luntian Kalikasan tree replanting. Several exhibitions including the winners of ‘Green tube’(an ad campaign contest) as well as the Earth Day ’09 Forum with Manila Times will be the highlights of the event.

Annual Pasig Fluvial Parade – Manila, Philippines
22nd April (Wed) 5am – 9am: Plaza Mexico, Intramuros
A parade organised by the Sagip Pasig Movement (SPM) will be held along the Pasig River to grab the attention of the nation, about the dying Pasig River and how human activities have led to its destruction.

Earth Day Tokyo 2009 – Tokyo, Japan
25th – 26th April (Sat-Sun): Yoyogi Park
For the 8th year, this 2-day event held annually in Japan’s capital city ensures a fun atmosphere. The event is free entry, and promises live music, flea markets, organic food and drinks, and a host of environmental awareness booths. This festival is expected to be the world’s largest Earth Day celebration, attracting 130,000 people to the park.

Kaohsiung Metropolitan Park Public Presentation – Kaohsiung, Taiwan
25th April (Sat) : Metropolitan Park
In view of Earth day, a representative of the International Coastal Cleanup (ICC) will be making a public presentation in the Metropolitan Park on Dongsha Atoll, examining waste in the international water and promoting ocean conservancy to the public. This coincides with the park’s 13th anniversary as well as the inauguration of its expansion.
