Valentine’s Special

Posted on February 13, 2009 by

You guys will have to excuse me but this post is not written by Nellie Huang. Instead, it’s written by her boyfriend Alberto as a surprise for her (this is what happens when you give your boyfriend access to your blog ;) ). This is a very special post, because after Nellie finds out about it, it might just be the last thing Alberto writes in his life.

I have never been much of a Valentine’s person, I always thought that if you really love somebody, any date on the calendar would be a good time to show it. Then, this same thought has showed me that February 14th is as good as any other day, and if you haven’t been specially romantic with your couple lately, this is a great time to make it up.

It has been more than 5 years since I first met this adorable little angel and I have been following her around the world since (sometimes a bit reluctantly I must say ;) ). It was always worth it, because no matter what we did (drive from one side of a country to the other just for a day trip, enjoy the rides of some theme park or finding out that our passport is expired right on the check-in counter – maybe some day Nellie will tell you about that one), we did it together.

Being apart from her was the most difficult thing I have ever done and I don’t think I would be able to do it again. Every minute I spend with her just strengthens the feeling that I don’t ever want to spend a single day, a single night, without her by my side. I have the most beautiful memories of our time together that was definitely the best of my life. Now I can only hope that she will accept this offer, so this moment can continue for the rest of our lives:

Nellie Huang, will you marry me?

[...] His proposal on my blog was an amazing feat, and the best gift ever. Alberto’s never been a vocal person, although affectionate and always loving. [...] Meanwhile, an exciting summer awaits as family and friends pile in to Spain for our big day. Yes, we’re getting married! It’s been eight beautiful years with Alberto – chasing our dreams together, fulfilling our wanderlust hand in hand and learning about the world one step at a time. He’s the one who encouraged me to write, to pursue what I thought was an impossible dream. I’ve gotten to where I am today, thanks to him. To have his support all these years, I count myself a very lucky girl. (If you’re curious to know how he popped the question, read this.) [...]
